Kari Larson

Associate Pastor of Relationships and Connecting

"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. And I am confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." - Philippians 1:9-11,6

Get Plugged Into Our Community

Community Groups

Community groups and Bible Study Groups are a place we can get to know each other. This is where we can dig in deeper with each other and our relationship with Jesus and also have fun together. We are all on this faith journey, whether you have been walking this road for a long time or you are new to or curious about life with Jesus and his Church, we invite you to be a part. We believe that having meaningful connections with a small number of other people within our church is vital to our health and growth as followers of Jesus.
Our GBC core values can grow and take root in these small gatherings – Focused on Jesus, Centred in Prayer, Pursing Growth, Seeking to Serve, and Living as Family.
There are a variety of times, study topics, and group demographics. If you would like to find out more Kari would be happy to connect with you.

Grief Share

Grief Share helps people find comfort after the loss of a loved one. A GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. Through this 13-week group, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are not neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability – and gain solid support each step of the way. You can talk to Kari and go to griefshare.org to find out more about this program. This program is run by wonderful volunteers and our hope is to offer it each year at GBC.

Alpha

Explore life, faith and meaning together.  Alpha is a multi-week course that creates a space where people come and discuss life’s big questions in a friendly, open, and informational environment.   If you are new to following Jesus, have questions about it, or have been following for a while but would like a foundational refresher, check out our Alpha group.

You can talk to Kari and go to alphacanada.org to find out more about this program.

This group is run by terrific volunteers and our hope is to offer it each year at GBC.

Craft Afternoon

Every Tuesday we have a drop in Craft afternoon from 3-5pm.  It’s a wonderful time of casual crafting and visiting for all ages.  Bring your own craft project or use the plethora of crafting supplies available.  Soup, Buns and snacks are provided by our wonderful volunteers.

Monthly Soup & Bun

We have a free Soup and Bun meal after our Sunday Service once a month in our Community Hall. Good things happen when people sit down and eat together!  We value Living as Family and this is one way for us to practice that! The soup is home made with love and so are the buns. This meal is free and everyone is welcome! Sometimes it’s a fundraiser for various ministries.  On those months there is a donation jar for those who would like to or are able to donate.

Serve Our Community

AV Tech

Along with our livestream, throughout our service we have announcements, lyrics, sermon notes, and videos projected. This is a great way to serve if you like tech and being behind the scenes.

TRAINING AVAILABLE

Sound

Do you enjoy the music or hearing the sermon? That happens because of our dedicated team behind the scenes adjusting the sound levels. If you want to help our worship teams without being on stage this is a great way to do that.

TRAINING AVAILABLE

Musicians

We have musicians lead us in worship every week. If you play an instrument and would like to use your talent to bring our congregation before God we would be happy to explore that with you.

Whether it is visiting seniors, helping others with needs, serving at a funeral tea, or making meals as a part of our MealTrain, GBC’s Care Ministry helps us reach out to those in need in our community in a very tangible way. We can always use more people with a heart for meeting people’s needs.

Here are a few opportunities for sharing God’s love:

Visiting seniors at The Manor, Fraser Lodge, the Hospital, in their homes.

Helping those in need with yard work or moving something.

Signing up to make meals where a MealTrain opportunity comes up.  This is usually when families could use help with meals like if someone has been very sick or has had a new baby.

Providing desserts or snacks for Funeral Teas.  Helping serve and clean up from Funeral Teas.

We often get requests for help with groceries, gas or other needs from those who are struggling. There is always an opportunity to help those in critical need.

We have one of the biggest facilities in the town of Hope and we open it to the community for all types of events: concerts, weddings, funerals, corporate events, and community musicals.  It’s a joy for us to open our doors to others.

We believe our building is God’s gift to us and our hope is to share it with the community. We seek to do so in a way that serves the community instead of using it as a way to generate revenue. This means when we host concerts admission is by donation, and our church family provides free teas for funerals.

We have a small but dedicated team that clean and upkeep our facility. It is a great ministry for those who like to work behind the scenes. Perhaps that’s you.

Welcoming and Connecting

We have people involved in this ministry who care about welcoming people to our body. It is very important that you feel welcomed and at home when you attend GBC and our team works to make sure you do. They also help newcomers get information about how to be connected at GBC and help families with children become familiar with our children’s programs.

If that is important to you as well, consider joining our team of greeters, help out with a monthly Soup & Bun after Sunday Worship, or perhaps connect with Kari about being a part of a small event committee (like the Christmas Banquet or Summer Family Picnic) or hosting a small gathering like a camp fire or games night.

We have people involved in this ministry who are passionate about welcoming people to our body. It is very important that you feel welcomed and accepted when you attend GBC and our team works to make sure you do. They also help newcomers get connected with GBC ministries.

If that is important to you as well, consider joining our team of ushers & greeters, help out with a monthly Soup & Bun after Sunday Worship, or perhaps sign-up as a host for an evening of Guess Who’s Coming For Dinner.
