The Revelation of Jesus Christ – Part 12

Revelation 19:11-20:15

The Revelation of Jesus Christ – Part 12

The King and His Kingdom

I. A DESCRIPTION of the KING. (19:11-21)
A. A WARRIOR who is WORTHY. (v.11-16)
B. Multiple SYMBOLS of POWER. (v.11-16)
C. ONE already BLOODIED. (v.13)
D. With a different KIND of ARMY. (19:8,14)
E. And a DIFFERENT kind of WEAPON. (v.15)

There is so much in our passage today that there is no way to cover it all. So we will narrow our focus a little bit to take a little pressure off of the preacher. The first thing that is clear is that the King is a central point of focus in chapter 19-20. He’s a warrior King, but in a different way than we usually expect.

1. Kid’s question: Do you wish Hope was ruled by a King? Why or why not?
2. What stands out to you about the methods of the soldiers of the King? What do those look like today?

II. A MEAL to establish a KINGDOM. (19:17-20:15)
A. One CHAPTER, two MEALS. (19:1-21)
B. LOTS we don’t UNDERSTAND. (20:1-11)
C. But PLENTY that we DO.
     1. Satan BOUND, RELEASED, and DEFEATED. (v.2,3,7-10)
     2. RESURRECTION is a REALITY. (v.4-6)
     3. Jesus will not BE King, He IS King. (Mt. 28:18; Rev. 1:5; 20:1-6, 11)

The end of chapter 19 is another one of the famous gory scenes of the Revelation. It’s so dark and bloody that we can often forget that it is not the only thing in the chapter. The supper of God stands in stark contrast to the first part of chapter 19.

3. What are your thoughts about the 1000 year reign? Why do you believe them to be true?
4. What do you think life will look like after the final resurrection? On what do you base your ideas?
5. What is one thing that you can apply to your life out of this passage and what will that look like?

III. LIVING as a subject of the KINGDOM today.
A. SEEK to see Jesus FULLY. (Heb 12:1-2)
B. Let WHO He is direct HOW we are. (Phil. 2:5-8)
C. PRAY and LIVE for a packed out FEAST. (19:9)

Since there is so much that is difficult to understand in this text we often just set it aside and ignore trying to apply it. But the reality is that there is enough in here to keep us busy for the rest of our lives.

6. What does Jesus look like to you? Is that an accurate description based on what we have seen in the Revelation?
7. What areas of your life might need to be brought into line with who Jesus is and how He likes to do things?
8. How can you live in such as way this week so as to point people to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb?
